Sir, I notice that the Waitrose store has been given permission to install a garden display outside its Wallingford branch. SODC reports that the proposal does not harm the character and appearance of the conservation area. So thinking of these two words, ‘conservation area’, how did the plans for the Wallingford store ever get passed in the first place? I can’t imagine a worse blot on the landscape and a complete disregard for the character and appearance of the conservation area. I just hope they add some trees to the display — tall ones!
