Sir, I would like to point out that the joint cycle/footpath on the B4493 referred to in the letter ‘Bike path useless’ is mainly in Didcot Road, Harwell, and less than a half of the length of it, is in Wantage Road, Didcot.

This confusion is partly caused by the removal of the Harwell village sign on that stretch of the road, presumably due to the new development ‘Atrium at Great Western Park’ and partly due to the bus stops on that stretch of road, which also call it Wantage Road (Bungalows), Didcot. That is incorrect.

The bungalows and properties, including ours, (opposite one bus stop on the north side and almost next to the one on the south side), are, as far as all the residents of them are aware, still living in Didcot Road, Harwell — unless no one has informed us that we are no longer in Harwell but now in Didcot.

This is causing the residents a lot of aggravation and problems as far as deliveries are concerned, as delivery drivers see Wantage Road bungalows on the bus signs, continue on over the A34 into the main part of Harwell village and claim they are unable to find us. We need the village sign re-installed and the bus stop signs corrected.

Where the footpath ends on the southern side of the B4493 at the last property (Didcot end), pedestrians now have to either walk through grass, or walk on the road to the entrance of ‘Atrium at Great Western Park’, to get on to the new footpath on the northern side of the road. The alternative, for residents at the ‘Didcot end’ wanting to walk into Didcot, is to walk east towards Harwell and then cross over to the north side further along where the cycle path comes out and ends and then walk back west into Didcot.
