Sir, I read with dismay that, following a cynical legal challenge, Oxfordshire County Council is to reconsider the decision not to approve the installation of pelican crossings in Marcham Road and Ock Street — a decision which has prevented the development of land off Drayton Road.
Because there has been no alteration to the original proposal, I fail to see how OCC can do anything but reject the proposal again.
Could it be that the new developer thinks the crossings will improve traffic speeds, reduce journey times, reduce queueing at the mini-roundabout junction, reduce stop-start traffic movement, or reduce air pollution, I think not.
The residents of Abingdon will gain no benefit from the crossings, but that is not the case with the developer.
