Sir, After living in north Abingdon for 25 years, we recently moved to live in the centre of our delightful town. What an eye-opener it has been, living so close to the shops, pubs and restaurants, yet still being able to enjoy on foot the attractions of the River Thames and the Ock Valley, and Albert and Victoria parks.
I would like to echo the sentiments of two of your correspondents in last week’s Herald (September 24), especially Hester Hand who took you to task for not giving the wonderful Heritage Weekend its deserved coverage.
Not only were the events in the Market Place a big attraction, but the opportunity to visit many of the private historic houses in West St Helen Street also proved very popular. Credit where it is due please.
Abingdon still needs much investment if it is to persuade more shoppers to come and visit, but we already have the basis of a very fine town — something of which all its residents should be very proud.
