Sir, After reading your letter pages of March 4 and 11, I am on the point of despair. Almost every letter concerned the opening or closing of some swimming pool or other.

Surely with what is going on in the Vale at the moment there are topics far more worthy of a letter. Thousands of houses being built with no thought of infrastructure, schools or medical facilities, an imminent General Election which could turn out to be the most complex and controversial for a lifetime to name but two.

So, I am sure you can understand my bemusement as it seems all your correspondents want to do is bang on about the closure of some outdoor pool or other which in our climate would only be comfortable to use on a average of three or four days a year at most.

For heaven’s sake, let us all take a step back and look at the big picture, before we all sink without trace into some perishing swimming pool!
