Sir – I was not surprised by your article in the Herald (August 26) in which Mr Ed Vaizey, MP was as usual sitting on the fence.

This sort of major upheaval to our local area would cause unknown problems for road, rail, local amenities, etc.

Why doesn’t Mr Vaizey nail his colours to the mast and say either that this country needs a secure infrastructure, guaranteed water supply for the foreseeable future being of paramount importance and we must all do our part or this proposal is just a sticking plaster to try to cover Thames Water’s inability to maintain an efficient leak-free mains system and a totally unnecessary invasion of rural life, not to mention the waste of millions of pounds of ratepayers’ money.

Come on Mr Vaizey, get off the fence for once- before you damage yourself on the barbed wire.
