Sir – Having read the pending development of Didcot Gateway and the nursery having to move (Herald, August 26), I ask what about parking? This area currently has a large car park which will surely disappear.
As Didcot and surrounding area has expanded, with extensive housing developments, Didcot has been strangled by traffic congestion. An issue I have raised previously.
Roads seem to be an afterthought, in other words, all these developments spring up and only then, the powers-that-be suddenly realise that our roads are inadequate and can’t cope.
In my view, a huge multi-storey car park should be built off Wallingford Road with a park-and-ride set up, bringing people into the town thus reducing traffic congestion.
It does seem to me, not only do developers want to build on every blade of grass but some in authority will not be happy until our ‘environment’ is under concrete with villages and towns losing their ‘identities’.
