Sir – In my personal view, Margaret Turner’s change of situation should warrant a by-election. Would people have voted for her if they knew she was a having a second home in Dorset? I suggest many would not have done.
The electorate votes for a person for a wide range of reasons that include:
a) As a protest vote – possibly protesting against national issues
b) Voting for a particular party rather than person
c) Voting for a person It is very nice to be able to afford a holiday home, while many cannot afford private rents.
I suggest Margaret Turner should do the right thing and stand down and let a by-election take place.
