Sir – I was delighted to read the article about Didcot being the place that Oxfordshire has chosen to study the ‘mini-Holland’ idea that Transport for London is already testing in three boroughs (Herald, October 21).

This is important because for most people to try cycling they need to feel safe from the start to the finish of their journey, which needs more than the current ‘patchwork’ approach to cycle routes.

I have switched from car to bike for my own journey to the station and I find it takes about the same time, but is much more consistent because I don’t get held up in traffic jams. Also I don’t have to spend time in the gym!
