Sir, Having been on sick leave for some months and being at home most days, I have become extremely aware of the number of cold calls I am receiving by telephone throughout the day.

The vast majority are from companies recovering PPI, despite being on a preferred callers register they still get through, on average two per day including weekends.

It used to be double glazing and home insulation. Why can’t we have legislation to stop this?

I’m sure that many older and vulnerable people are being pressurised into agreements that they don’t want or perhaps need.

Some companies get very irate when I say that I am not interested and try to tell me how to organise my personal finances when they do not even know me — tactics which I am sure can unsettle many people.

Unfortunately, telephone numbers are so easily obtainable, but it is high time cold-call telephoning was outlawed.
